UPDATES!

Boy, I am waaaaay behind on blogging – sorry.  Will try to catch up on a couple of events before I post my pictures and blog about my birthday celebration in Exuma.

I had the privilege earlier in the year of attending a speech by President Obama.  I went the day  before to stand in line for tickets thinking  that it would be long and boring.  However, it turned into a lively political discussion between like and unlike minds of all ages – to the young conservative Republican father with 3 children waiting to get tickets so his children could see the President, to the elderly woman ready to throw in the towel, disgusted with politics and politicians, to the 18 year old student so excited to finally be able to vote, to me and you all know my politics!

Soon after this memorable event – what a thrill it was for me to see the President and listen to his remarkable speech – another memorable event came along – Opening Day for the Cleveland Indians!!  Jack and I rode the train downtown on a beautiful, sunny day to participate in this fun day!  It looks sunny in the pictures but it turned out to be cold in our seats – that wind off Lake Erie!   We played the Texas Rangers and lost but that was ok – it was a great day anyway!  In order to avoid the crowds on the train after the game (imagine – a city that actually has mass transit to the burbs and people use it!!)  we dined at the Hard Rock Cafe near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – how iconic is that!!

HAPPY EASTER!

After quietly enjoying a hundred or so Great Blue herons building their nests and performing their mating dances we found our way to a magical place called Indigo Lake for a hike.  Those of you who know us well will know why just the name Indigo warms our hearts.  She was black lab #2 and a special creature.  Who knew the herons nested here in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park?  What a splendid scene!  The pictures aren’t so good but the real thing rocked!  And it’s called a heronry!  So much for me thinking it was a rookery!  Although they look so large and have a 7 foot wing span they only weigh 4-7 pounds!  They lay 5-7 eggs (they are about the size of a chicken’s egg and are the beautiful blue of a robin’s egg) with usually only 1 or 2 hatching.  The ranger told us she has seen one nest with 3 babies!!  We hope to go back often and follow the process.

When we got home I found our birdhouses (it is Spring after all and the birds need to make a nest!) and casually placed them on the deck railing to await fishing line and the guy that hangs the bird houses when 2 chicakdees moved in within ten minutes of the houses being placed there!!  AND – began to make nesting material of my basket!!

The Cleveland Museum of Art – not just any art museum but one of the top 10 art museums in the country!  Today we saw a special Gauguin exhibit.  The landmark exhibition gathered 100 paintings, works on paper, wood carvings and ceramics by Paul Gauguin and his contemporaries.  It also included a portfolio of eleven zincographs.  OK – how many zincographs has anyone seen in the Keys recently?
