Welcome to our sailing blog! Jack and I created this blog to share our pictures and ship's log with those of you who have expressed an interest. We (Jack, Susan and our lab, Dakota) left April 11th on our 2008 cruise aboard the S/V Freyja, our 38 foot DownEast cutter. Jack and I have cruised the Keys for many years, the Abacos, the Berry Islands, the Dry Tortugas, and now this is our second year in a row to sail the pristine waters of the the Central Bahamas, better-known as the Exumas. Most of our time was spent anchored off deserted islands but we always went ashore if we were near a settlement to explore and meet the locals. As we progress through the blog you will meet them, too, and hopefully be as charmed as we have been. We will share our anchorages, you will meet some of our new boating friends and learn about the vagaries of the wind and the weather (the weather is EVERYTHING when you live on a boat!) and share in the fun of finding supplies on out-islands, docking to purchase water and diesel in currents that rip through at 5 knots in the opposite direction from the wind (!!!) and glory in one beautiful sunset after another and a different white beach every day! Let's go sailing!
