S/VFreyja's Log: ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

After our fun time in Skowhegan on the Model T rally Jack and I drove with Dakota to explore Acadia National Park. We had rented a cabin, arrived just at sunset and the pictures speak for themselves……..

We saw thousands of sunsets when we lived in the Keys – this one topped any of them! The picture doesn’t do it justice but it was all hot pink and turquoise!

A day of hiking begins…….

Maine doesn’t allow you to visit their lighthouses. This is the closest I could get for a picture of Bass Harbor lighthouse.

From hiking the Atlantic we moved inland a bit to hike a fresh water pond. Dakota wasn’t allowed to swim as the pond was a water source.

The only restaurant in the park is Jordan Pond House. It is tradition to stop here for popovers!!

Acadia is one of the smallest national parks and also one of the most visited. We were there at the perfect time, just after Labor Day and before peak color so fewer crowds. We think it is one of the prettiest parks we have visited and look forward to visiting again. On our journey home we stopped at LLBean’s flagship store in Freeport, Maine

Jack and I are big fans of National Wildlife refuges – for 2 reasons – they are almost always dog-friendly and we are usually the only car in the parking lot. Montezuma is in the Finger Lakes region of New York near Seneca Falls and serves as a major resting area for waterfowl and other waterbirds on their journeys to and from nesting areas in northeastern and east-central Canada. We were too early for the flyovers but soon after we were there they were expecting up to 50,000 Canadian geese and 150,000 ducks!! We enjoyed the hiking!
